Sean Gordon interview: Indigenous empowerment

Constitutional recognition will go a long way to healing, but it’ll also help change the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, because right now it isn’t that great. The greatest atrocity committed against Indigenous people from colonisation until now is that we’ve been economically crippled. Our whole dependency has been on government.
What we’re trying to achieve in constitutional recognition is Indigenous empowerment that allows us to start to have some control over our own affairs. We need to be resourced to be able to drive and lead that. We don’t want to be treated differently.
